Sylvester The Jester

Yesterday morning I met Dan at his house in Bellflower. We went over some details of what's going to happen this week. He is opening up for The Amazing Johnathan in Vegas and asked me if I wanted to be his assistant, his regular guy was unavailable for this last minute booking.

I said I'd be happy to do it and we leave tomorrow with Friday Night being our first night, then we work through Wednesday.

I can feel the creative side of my brain seeking and finding opportunities to excercise my creative muscle.

“Imagination is the beginning of creation. You imagine what you desire, you will what you imagine and at last you create what you will.”

- George Bernard Shaw

King Kong

Some might see the dirt on a car as dirt. Dan saw King Kong. I am lucky and blessed in my life to award myself another chance to fill my life with love, creativity and inspiration. I will achieve and succeed, the only question now is, at what.

Late night last night

The evening started early, a bit before 7PM. How was I to know that I would be getting home and crawling into bed at 4:40AM just a tad before Polly was getting up to go to work. Overall I had a great time and was able to get up to take Buster to school at 7:40AM.

Chris Korn had invited Polly and me to go to the Hotel Cafe in Hollywood to hear one of his favorite female singer songwriters Julianna Raye. Polly had an early call time so it wasn't in the cards for her, but I went and was very impressed with a line up of extremely talanted artists. Also on the bill was Kelda, Mozella & Katy Perry.

It's always a hoot hanging out with Chris. He brought a date who was doll and an interior designer. We were the last to leave the club and they disappeared into the night.

About that time I got a call from another old friend who was having some issues with his wife and decided to deal with them by drinking himself into a stupor and shooting some pool in Santa Monica. He asked me to hang with him for a while, so I did. We closed that bar and drove and hung around for another couple of hours. My pal's wife just had a baby and he might be going through what I call the "left out father syndrome". I'm not sure what's going on with them, but I was trying to be a good friend.

The Amazing Johnathan

Sunday Fun

On Sunday, I worked the Abbot Kinney Festival down near Venice Beach. Chris Korn had hipped me to this laid back festival as it's in his neighborhood. The Promenade can get to be too much on the weekends. Too many acts, too much noise. Saturday I was sandwiched between a guy playing bag pipes. . . with enthusiasm, and the break dancers. I couldn't even hear my own piece of shit sound system. Anyways, the opportunity to perform anywhere other then the Promenade was a welcome diversion. What I encountered was a festival with no street performers. I did well and had a lot of fun. Wasn't that crazy about where I set up, but it was in the shade. It worked out well enough as I banged out show after show, throwing in a few deck pitches for texture.

I never know who I might run into while working the streets. I saw a friend from a previous lifetime, her name is Babett, she was Boris Sargent's aka John Sargent aka Jon Dairy aka Sandy first wife. She is Harvey Weinstein's cousin. Strangely enough, Chris Richardson's wife Melanie is Boris's sister. To make a long story undecipherable, I was the best man at Babett's and Boris's wedding in Eden Park over 16 years ago. I took over a loft that they lived in down in the hood. 12th and Vine in Over the Rhine. Now she lives in a Artist Community with her husband Carlos at a place called "The Brewery". I was invited to some sort of opening, but I believe I will be out of town.

Later that evening Polly I went to The Derby and did some swing dancing. What a great scene! Got to like a band with at least a dozen horns, upright bass, drums, piano and some talented vocalists. We danced in both rooms and gazed nto each others eyes. What can I say, I was dancing with the girl I love in a really cool place.
